Your National Executive for 2011-2013!

Based out of Edmonton Alberta, your current National Executive is a team of fun-loving CYMKivtsi who are interested in making CYMK what you want it to be! Feel free to contact any one of the executive members with questions or comments about anything CYMK, leadership, games, sharing ideas, or if you just want to chat!

President - Katrina Baziuk

"Xello!  Yak sia mayesh?!" To give you a bit of an idea of everything that is "Tenka" (ps-that's my nickname!)…I was born and raised in Edmonton, and grew up attending tserkva at St. John’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. As a member of CYMK I have held various executive positions, including President of St. John's Sr. CYMK, AB Regional Coordinator, AB Assistant Regional Coordinator, and AB Past-President. In June 2010, I completed my BSc in Pharmacy at the University of Alberta and have been working as an official "drug dealer" every since! In addition to my love for all things CYMK, one of my passions is Ukrainian dancing. I have been a member of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers since 2006 and have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with family and friends.  My dusha will keep me dancing until “Stara Baba Syndrome” (aka. aches & pains) takes over! I also love to sing and am a member of the Viter Ukrainian Folk Choir - so fun!  In November 2011, I married my favorite-partner-in-the-world, Mikael Slevinsky, and became a "Pani."  Great success!  I’m very excited to be serving a 2nd term as your National President and am looking forward to having a DOBREY CHAS with all of you over the next 2 years!!

Vice President - Tania Shapka

Hello CYMKivtsi! My name is Tania Shapka (yes, like a hat!) and I’m really excited to be your Vice-President on the National Executive! Along with backing up our Presidentka, I'll continue to work on incorporating more religious programming in CYMK, like last convention's Kalyna Country Catechism.  Aside from this position, I have also been my local’s President, a member of the Alberta Regional executive, as well as a MWP on last year's National Executive. I was born and raised in Edmonton, and grew up attending St. Anthony’s Church. This past year I graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Psychology. My passion is Ukrainian dance and I am a company member of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers. This summer I had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel with Shumka to China for a 14 city, 23 show tour.  I’m excited to meet even more CYMKivtsi at our upcoming events and conventions, and I’m really looking forward to a fantastic term with all of you!

Treasurer - Stephan Maslo

Hello my fellow CYMKivtsi! I'm excited to be your Treasurer for a 2nd term and to have the opportunity to work with such a fantastic team! Just to give you a bit of insight into the keeper of the National CYMK piggy bank, this past year I graduated from the University of Alberta School of Business, with a degree in Accounting. I have been a member of CYMK from a young age and have held positions in both local and provincial executives, the most recent being Alberta CYMK Treasurer. Also keeping me busy, I'm volunteering as the Co-Chair of Rocky Mountain Business Seminar 2010 (RMBS), a student-run university business conference held in Jasper. In my free time, I enjoy reading, travelling (everywhere!) and playing golf (though not very well). I'm looking forward to our upcoming CYMK events and hope to see you there!

Secretary - Markiana Baziuk

Вітаємо всіх CYMKівців! I am your National CYMK Secretary for a 2nd term! Let me start off by introducing myself a little bit. I am twenty two years old and grew up in Edmonton with pure Українска душа. This past Spring I graduated from the University of Alberta with my BSc in Nursing, and I now work as Registered Nurse at 2 different hospitals in Edmonton.  Outside of school I fulfill my love for Ukrainian culture. I have been dancing for seventeen years and currently I am a company member with the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, as well as a member of the Viter Ukrainian Folk Choir! Aside from my  national executive position, I have been an active CYMKівка since the early stages. I have had the opportunity of holding the positions of Local Co-President and Regional Secretary, and am very excited to have been part of the National Executive since 2009. I look forward to meeting more CYMKівці across Canada and attending many Regional conventions!! If you have any questions, concerns or feedback, send them our way through zaklyk@gmail.com.

MWP – Larissa Pohoreski

I’m back! for a third term on the National Executive, this time serving as an MWP, charged with the portfolio of Media & Communications.  I'll be working on all of those awesome Zaklyk issues you love to see throughout the year!  Aside from holding 2 different positions on previous National executives, other CYMK positions from back in the day include Secretary and Co-President on the local level, as well as Regional President. I’m 21 years old and am a student at the University of Alberta. I hope to go to film school at some point, so perhaps you’ll catch me working on the next Taras Bulba film! I currently work 2 different jobs in the "real word." In my free time, I love to paint!  I also spend a lot of my time at the dance studio with the Viter Ukrainian Dancers and am in my 8th year with the ensemble.  I am passionate about music, and if you attended the last few conventions you would have seen me playing the skrypka up and down the hotel hallways. I’m looking forward to another exciting term working alongside Katrina, Tania, Stephan, Marki and our advisors & chaplain!

Chaplain - Fr. Cornell Zubritsky

Keep checking back for Fr. Cornell's bio!  :)

Advisor - MaryAnn Baziuk

Hello CYMKivtsi across Canada!  My time with CYMK goes back many, many years.  I have worked my way up from the grassroots by first being a CYMKivka at St.Elias’s Parish in Edmonton.  From there I was an active member of The All Edmonton CYMK Choir and sat on the Provincial Executive in many different positions.  My role as an advisor began at St. John’s Cathedral with first the Junior Local and then the Senior Local.  I moved up to the Provincial Executive with Tenka and Marki and then followed them to The National Executive.  Presently I teach part time in a grade 6 classroom and sing with The Viter Folk Choir.  I can be seen in church every Sunday taking care of my Sunday School class of 4 and 5 year olds, and I also volunteer with the Advisory Panel at the Cathedral.  I am very excited to be a part of this National Executive for a second term.  Working with our youth keeps me young at heart!

Advisor - David Makowsky

Hello CYMKivtsi across Canada!  David Makowsky is pleased to join this talented group of young adults as a new advisor to the national executive in Edmonton.  David is no stranger to CYMK, having served on the national executive for six years, and two years as national president.  David works at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village as head of community and corporate relations, and resides in Edmonton with his three sons, Jonah, Micah and Luke Makowsky.

Advisor - Tania Mysak

Tania Mysak is a new advisor this term but is certainly no stranger to CYMK! She has been a local president, provincial president and was even National president once upon a time.  Tania married fellow CYMKivetz Mark Makowsky and is now Mama to Toma and Katya Makowsky...future CYMKivtsi! In her non-CYMK time, Tania is a clinical pharmacy manager with Alberta Health Services, sings with Viter choir (had to hang up the red boots a couple years ago), and serves on the Board of Directors for the newly renovated St John's Institute in Edmonton.
